We don't have the standard people working for us, if you look around in the industry. The personal values of the people at Smit & de Wolf are the same as those of the company. Here we work with heart and soul.

IT'S IN THE FAMILY

At Smit & de Wolf, they ate accountancy from a young age. The fathers of Rutger de Wolf and Robert-Jan Peeters, together with Mr. Smit, formed the firm basis of the company. The cowboys of the Scheveningseweg. Every month, Mr. Peeters took the younger guard out to dinner to interview them thoroughly. He had the drive to teach them the trade at a rapid pace. As a result, there are now four men with enough energy at the helm of the office who trust each other blindly.

“I used to come here to steal the pens from the stock, then I did it in as a vacation job. It first took a trip to BDO to continue with these boys. I knew Robert-Jan from the past; his father was the first employee. It was a trinity. As a child, I stood opposite him on the tennis court. The bond between the old core was close.”

OUR HISTORY

1975 The beginning of a childhood dream

In 1975, colleagues Ton Smit & Jan de Wolf decided it was time to start their own business. With acquired knowledge, they settled under the name “Business Economic Consultancy Firm Smit & de Wolf” in a former photo studio on the Loevesteinlaan in The Hague. This quickly leads to a growth in business, and they decide to involve former office mate Ton Peeters in the new company.

1981 Unprecedented growth

The client portfolio is increasing rapidly, and this success is making the switch to a 'real' office on Cornelis de Wittlaan. At the same time as the increase in clients, the size of the employee base is also increasing rapidly. The organization is being strengthened, among other things, with inspectors who switch from the tax authorities, and relationship managers.

1989 The cowboys of the Scheveningseweg

Due to the success of the office, the housing on Cornelis de Wittlaan also appears to be too small after just a few years and the current office building on Scheveningseweg is being purchased. We are working hard to professionalize the work processes and IT. With Ton Smit's large network, this brings the office to a leading position as a medium-sized SME + advisory organization in the The Hague region.

2010 A difficult phase

The sudden death of Ton Smit (July 2010) and Ton Peeters (Nov 2009) has a major emotional impact on the office, staff and all relationships. To guide the office through this difficult period, an MT is being formed to support Jan de Wolf in his position as director where possible.

2016 A new course

The MT members Rutger de Wolf, Dave Lodder, Robert-Jan Peeters and Henk-Jan Garnaat take over Jan de Wolf's office and Ton Smit's heirs. With their experience and network, they set a new course with respect for the history of the office. A clear proposition as a consulting firm is chosen, using accountancy and taxation as important tools. Engagement and diligence have been paramount since the beginning in 1975.

2017-present
The CFO of
your company

Led by the four gentlemen, a rebranding process takes place that is the distinguishing value of
Makes Smit & de Wolf visible. For things that can be automated, the latest technology is used so that there is time to do what Smit & de Wolf is good at. Being the CFO that a company needs. The building is being extensively renovated and divided into 2 different office buildings, including the completely renovated and modernized building “number 10” by Smit & de Wolf in June 2019.

2025 Smit & the Wolf
50 years

Smit & de Wolf's diligence and involvement ensures that the 50th anniversary is celebrated. Smit & de Wolf is there for the old boys and for progressive companies that change the future. The door is wide open on the Scheveningseweg for those who could use a CFO.

It goes without saying that we provide returns, financial statements and payroll administration, but we are also there for a conversation with the grandchildren about a cohabitation contract or if the company transfers to the children.
